Blogging 101
That is pretty much where we are at right now. This blog is only a few months old and we still feel like we have so much to learn. What they don’t tell you when you have this bright idea to blog about your passion is about EVERYTHING you have to learn.
- Social Media Management
- SEO
- This NOT easy for the average bear as Google doesn’t spill on what the secret sauce is. It’s trial and error and a ton of research
- Website building
- Thankfully there are so many resources online now to help you with tackling your website. We personally you the Divi theme and love it.
- Graphic Design
- Our go-to for this is by far Canva. First, it’s FREE and FREE is good! Secondly, it is super easy to use and keep all of your designs for you.
- Email Design
- This one caused me a bit of a struggle but I landed on using Mailerlite as once again it’s FREE until you get up to 1000 followers and it integrate with my pop up email capture Bloom
- Photography
- Thank goodness for new technology. I am NOT a photographer but my Samsung Note 9 does help me out quite a bit.
- Contracts
- Always, always, always read the fine print and make sure you are giving them only what they are paying for.
And last but certainly not least
- CONTENT WRITING!!
This is just to name a few of them as we seem to be finding new hats to wear every day with our blogging project. Content is a big one for us.
If this is not something you come by naturally this can be a bit daunting. How do you come up with idea after idea after idea? This can be a daily challenge that can feel overwhelming some days when you are just getting started.
To help us through this process we find ourselves doing a ton of research and looking for inspiration everywhere. What is my Instagram showing me a ton of right now? What new food trend is happening? Did a new restaurant open that I need to review? What are my favorite cooking sites making? This is constant work but for us so much fun because its what we love the food industry.
To help out in some of this process I put together a FREE list of content ideas to help inspire you with your creations. These were some bits and bobs that I have been collecting in my Trello account (psst … get Trello, it’s free) and thought I would share with you.
Hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!
I’m new to blogging too! It sure has a steep learning curve but it’s fun and (I hope) worth the effort. Thanks for sharing your list.
You are welcome!
SEO is definitely what keeps kicking my butt! I just started blogging back in January, so I try not to be too hard on myself, but darn it I feel like SEO could be a whole college major there’s so much to learn about it!
That is a true statement. I work on SEO for multiple people all the time and it is a challenge!
Boy oh boy, can I relate. Blogging is a tough sport!
No Kidding! Good luck!
When I launched my blog earlier this year, I had no idea what I was in for! I know it will be worth it, but I am struggling to keep it all straight.
I always feel likes so many moving parts to juggle. I use Trello to keep me somewhat organized and on task.
Great Idea! There is a ton to learn!
Thanks!
Great list and true statement about all the behind the scenes pieces that go into blogging. I’m a new blogger as well, and boy oh boy have I been learning tons! I like your idea of checking instagram for new content ideas!
I just follow the chefs that I enjoy or the restaurants that I like to see what they are making to give myself ideas.
Coming up with things to write about is definitely one of the hardest parts for a lot of bloggers. Great idea to help solve that need!
Thank you!
Great info for sure. There is SO much to blogging that you would think!
This is why the Blogging Blastoff course is so very helpful to all of us new bloggers!
Absolutely!
SEO??? Goodness this is so confusing to me.
SEO is how Google grades your website and decides if it will post your pages in search results. There are a ton of online resources on youtube, blogs, article, etc everywhere. It can be confusing as all get out but absorb it slowly and get a plugin like Yoast for your website. Remember we are also all here to help.
Content writing is so hard for me and I don’t know why. I feel like everything has already been written about, but I know that’s not true! I love Canva too, and keep hearing about Trello so I guess I need to take a look into that. Thanks!
You are welcome!
Yes! So much to learn!
I am going with one day at a time. Rome didn’t get built in a day and neither is Welina Home.
There certainly is a lot to learn when blogging. I’ve been at it for a couple of years, and I still have so much to learn. I just keep plugging along and picking up bits and pieces of information along the way.
The starting of a Blog has been a learning experience for sure. I always felt I was pretty technologically savvy but I had much to learn. I was lucky with the SEO as I have a Marketing major and years of experience using SEO in my work but I still had a lot to learn on using it in posts and SM. Thanks for all the info
My blog is really new as well and I had no idea what I was doing right out of the gate. I’m enjoying the learning process! Your blog looks great!
Thank you!
I’m new to blogging and I feel like is a never-ending work in progress. There is always something to learn, something to improve, something to change. It is a lot of work and I’m loving it so far.
These are all great tips! SEO is on my list for further development. I’ve been blogging since December 2018 and it’s a constant learning environment.
I can 1000% relate to everything you just listed! When I step back and think about everything I’ve learned over the past year, I’m not sure whether to be overwhelmed or proud of myself. Usually, a little bit of both! LOL!
Oh goodness! It’s true when they say blogging isn’t for everyone. I had a few meltdowns over the past few days, but I’m figuring it out. I’ve differently picked up some skills along the way. I keep looking at my blog like it’s one of my children soon she will grow and blossom just as long as I keep pouring love into her. She keeps me up like a real infant though. SMH!
SEO’s are the part that is getting me. Thank goodness my son is a great IT guy. He is helping me through this huge learning curve.
I can totally relate! It has been a steep learning curve but I am enjoying it so much. Being able to connect with other bloggers out there and ride on this journey together. We got this!!! 🙂
Always a “work in progress”!
Blogging is something that is a learning process! It could be a college course! Best wishes in your success!
Thnk you!
This is a great list! I definitely wish I had worked on SEO sooner. The more refined I get in my SEO, the better my results.
when I started blogging, I didn’t realize it was a business. There are so many moving parts and marketing strategies. But it also turned out to be the thing I love most about it!
Great ideas you’ve shared!!! I’m thankful to have the opportunity to blog; however, I wish I had a little more time to write. Great tips
!!!
You are singing my song right now. I’ve come to the conclusion that really successful bloggers have others doing some of the pieces for them. I don’t need to be really big, just want a bit extra to play with here at home. The writing piece is easy for me… I have SO much material in my head, I can’t figure out how to sort it out. In fact, I’d rather write than do all the other stuff. But I know it is important and I am actually enjoying learning new things. Pinterest is still eluding me. Gah!
Great roundup here for folks (like me) who are new to the world of blogging. Thanks!
There is always something to learn and always room to grow in this world of blogging.
Great list… if only DOING it was as easy as reading it LOL
This is an informative and not overwhelming list to know how blogging works! I definitely struggle with content, but in a way that I have too many ideas that I can’t figure out which ones to use next lol
You are off to a great start with your blog! Keep up the good work.
Thank you!
Blogging is a whole new world. But, the benefits of making new friends, learning new things and new skills is worth it.
So true! There is so much to learn. And I agree with SEO. It feels like such a mystery sometimes. Haha!
SEO is still my biggest hurdle when it comes to blogging.
